I have aquired a Dell OptiPlex Quad Core i5-2400 8GB 1000GB WiFi
Windows 10 64-Bit Desktop PC Computer (Renewed)
Ad said it was Windows 10 Home but it has Windows 10 Pro installed.

I want to keep it but the installed security is refusing to let me
install my Canon printer and Zonealrm Free firwall.

Any advice welcome. TIA

if this is an ex-corrporate machine then it sounds like the previous end
user was only given a user account and its only the sys admins that can
have an admin account on said PC.

Your best bet is to find out if its a 32 bit or 64 bit version of win 10
Pro, download the ISO or use the MS media creation tool, burn to USB or
DVD, and reinstall onto said PC and then create yourself an admin account.

I realise this is a faff but i generally find its good practice to do
this when buying a 2nd hand PC, think of it as giving a 2nd hand car or
hour a deep clean or re-paint/redecorate job :-)

It's 64 bit.

Just found a Windows 10 Home/Pro stick. Possibly one I bought from
Computer Active a few years ago. Waiting for a reply from the vendor
before I bite the bullet and reinstall.

I haven't bought a second hand car since 1984 although I have spent
last week helping a nephew buy a car for his 17 year old son. Phew,
what a performance and so many lies told by the vendors. :-(

Probably safer (and less updating) if you download the Windows 10 Media
Creation tool and make your own USB install stick. Assuming the machine has a
valid license now, Microsoft will recognise the machine at activation time.
You'll get a clean install with all the privileges you need. Of course if
there's anything else on the machine you want to keep, that's not the way to
go. Go into Settings, Accounts, 'Family and other users' and see if any of the
'Other Users' is listed as an administrator. If so, then log on using that
account if you can figure out any password attached to it. The vendor *might*
be able to help with this.

Thanks David. Sorted now. The vendor sugested running as admin. Works
great.
